I'm slightly obsessed with frosting boards and this Adorable Cat Frosting Board totally has my heart!
Halloween isn't just about the spooky decorations, trick-or-treating, or hauntingly fun parties. It's also a time to get creative in the kitchen! And what better way to entertain your guests than with a delightful dessert spread inspired by our feline friends?
This Cat Frosting Board brings a purrfect combination of sugary treats that's both a feast for the eyes and a treat for the taste buds.
What Is A Buttercream Board?
If you’ve never heard of a Buttercream Board, it’s basically a dessert charcuterie board that features delicious buttercream frosting along with your favorite sweet treats.
I like to use cookies, marshmallows, snack cakes, donuts and my favorite candy along with salty snacks like pretzel sticks and pretzel chips.
Items You'll Need for Your Frosting Board
Square Serving Tray:
The square serving tray acts as the base and display platform for your dessert creations. Its symmetrical shape offers a modern and organized look, allowing for structured placement of desserts. Beyond dessert boards, it can be used to serve appetizers, cheeses, or even as a base for decorative centerpieces.
1M Open Star Piping Tip
The 1M Star Piping Tip is an indispensable tool for achieving the desired aesthetic and texture for the Cat Frosting Board. Its unique star-shaped design creates beautifully defined patterns and textures on this cute cat frosting board, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the board. The tip’s larger size ensures that the frosting flows out smoothly and evenly, creating a professional-looking finish that's not easily achievable with smaller or differently shaped tips.
Disposable Decorating Bags or Pastry Bags:
These decorating bags are convenient tools for any baking enthusiast. Being disposable, they offer a hassle-free cleanup after a decorating session.
They’re durable enough to hold and dispense thick frostings, and with their flexibility, decorators can easily control the flow. They can be used with various tips for different decorating techniques, making them perfect for everything from cupcakes to intricate cake designs.
Parchment Paper Sheet:
Parchment paper is a baker’s best friend. It offers a non-stick surface, ideal for baking cookies, pastries, or even as a liner for cake pans.
We're using the parchment paper in our Cat Buttercream Board to trace and transfer the cat face design, however there are lots of other great uses. We use it all the time here for baking cookies since it's heat resistance, making it suitable for oven use.
Beyond baking, it can be used for rolling out doughs or even for wrapping food items.

How To Make A Cute Cat Dessert Board
{Scroll down for a printable recipe card.}
If you're using homemade frosting, start by making your frosting.
Add a few drops of purple food coloring to the frosting and mix until blended. Adjust the shade by adding more drops until you achieve your preferred tone.
Fit a piping bag with a 1M Pastry Tip and fill it with all of the purple icing.
Print the cat template and cut out the shape. Trace it onto parchment paper if desired and place it onto the center of your serving board.
Use a dab of frosting to keep your template secure.
Trace the template (or freehand if you're super artistic) by making stars around the entire outline of the cat.
Don't rush this or you'll end up with a cat that doesn't quite look right.
Fill in the entire cat shape.
When your cat is completely filled in, place two mini OREO cookies as the cat's eyes.
Next top each Oreo with a candy eye. Use a mini marshmallow as the nose and add the licorice strips as whiskers on either side.
Once you're done with the cat, you're going to start placing all your sweet treats around the board. You can do this in any order, but this is the order I used.
Position the Little Debbie cakes at the top left and bottom right corners of the board. Place the mini cupcakes at the opposite corners from the cakes.
Add the mini chocolate chip muffins to the right and left sides of the board. Fill the open white spaces with OREO, Chips Ahoy! Cookies, and Donut Holes.
Ensure there are no empty spaces by adding mini cookies, remaining mini marshmallows, and ROLO candy.
Serve your Cat Frosting Board with spoons and plates. Enjoy this delectable spread with friends and family!
Notes: Best if prepared and consumed on the same day for optimal freshness.
FAQs {Frequently Asked Questions}
Can I use a different color for the frosting?
Absolutely! Feel free to customize the frosting color to match your Halloween theme.
What if I can't find some of the specified treats?
No worries! This board is all about creativity. Swap out any treats for your personal favorites or what's available in your local store. If you need ideas, Cosmic Brownies are a super fun addition to any colorful frosting board. I think pretzels are also a fun addition.
How long does the frosting board last?
The board is best enjoyed on the same day it's made to ensure everything is fresh and the frosting maintains its texture.
Do I need to refrigerate the board?
Yes, since it's made with frosting, you'll want to keep it refrigerated if you make it up ahead of time. I don't recommend adding the treats to the board until the last minute so they don't lose their texture.
Can I freehand the cat design instead of using a template?
Certainly! If you're feeling artistic, go for it. The template is just there for guidance.
I don't have a square serving tray. Is there something else I can use?
If you don't have a square serving tray, don't fret! There are other things you can use.
A rectangular platter, a large round plate, or even a wooden cutting board can serve as a base for your Cat Frosting Board. The key is to ensure that the surface is flat and large enough to accommodate all the treats while showcasing the cat-shaped frosting centerpiece effectively.
Remember, creativity is at the heart of this project, so feel free to adapt and innovate based on what you have available!
Halloween is all about indulgence, creativity, and sharing fun times with loved ones. The Cat Frosting Board epitomizes all three.
