Whether you're hosting a Halloween party or taking treats to your kiddos school, these Adorable Ghost Cupcakes are sure to be a huge hit!
I love sharing fun holiday recipes and since Halloween is one of the twins' favorite holidays, we make A LOT of Halloween recipes.
With this simple recipe and a little creativity, you can create a ghoulishly delightful Halloween dessert that everyone will love. And because we use a box mix to make these delicious cupcakes, you won't need to spend hours in the kitchen whipping up these little ghosts.
How To Make Cute Ghosts Cupcakes
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix the ingredients with an electric mixer until they're well combined.
Next, line your cupcake tin with your cupcake liners.
Using an ice cream scooper or a ¼ cup measuring cup, evenly distribute the cupcake batter into the liners. Make sure to fill them only ¾ full to prevent spilling during baking.
Roll up 4 small pieces of foil per cupcake and place them into the cupcake tin to create the ghost shape.
Place the tin in the oven and bake cupcakes for 18-20 minutes. To test if they're ready, insert a toothpick into the center of one. If it comes out clean, they're done!
After baking, remove the chocolate cupcakes from the oven, place on a wire rack and let them cool completely. This is crucial for decorating, as hot cupcakes will melt your frosting.
Once cooled, fill your piping bag (which should be fitted with the tip 1A) with the vanilla buttercream.
Remove the cupcakes from the pan.
Using your white buttercream, begin by piping the head, both arms, and the tail of the ghost onto the top of the cupcake.
Use your offset spatula to smooth out the frosting, giving your ghost a smooth appearance.
With black icing, design the eyes and mouth of the ghost. This will bring your ghost to life!
Place your cupcakes on a plate or tray, serve, and enjoy your spooky treats!
Helpful Equipment for Making Halloween Ghost Cupcakes
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Can I use a different cake mix other than chocolate?
Yes, you can use your favorite flavor of boxed cake mix. I used the chocolate cake mix because the dark color contrasts well with the white frosting of the ghost, making it pop.
What if I don’t have foil to make the ghost shape?
You can also use parchment paper or marbles to shape the ghosts. You can even use ghost-shaped silicone cupcake molds if available. The key is to create a mold that helps shape the ghost's body.
Do I have to use buttercream frosting?
Nope. I also like to use cream cheese frosting (this homemade recipe is amazing). You could also mix marshmallow fluff (aka marshmallow creme) with buttercream frosting to make an amazing marshmallow buttercream frosting.
I don't have black buttercream. Is there something else I can use?
Sure. You can make black buttercream by adding black food coloring (I highly recommend using the black gel food coloring) to your frosting. If you don't feel like messing with that, you can use mini chocolate chips or edible candy eyes to make the ghost's eyes and you can use regular chocolate chips to make the mouth.
Can I use store-bought frosting?
Absolutely! If you're short on time or ingredients, using store-bought white and black frosting will work just fine.
How long can I store these cupcakes?
If stored in an airtight container, these ghost cupcakes will remain fresh for 3-4 days at room temperature.
Can I freeze these cupcakes for later use?
Yes, you can freeze the, but you're much better off freezing unfrosted cupcakes and decorating them once you're ready to serve them.
Get your baking gear ready and prepare to make these hauntingly delicious ghost cupcakes! Whether you're prepping for Halloween or just in the mood for some ghostly fun, these cupcakes will surely be a hit. Enjoy baking! 🎃👻
