Halloween season is here (or spooky season if you prefer) and if you're thinking of whipping up some quick, easy, yet incredibly fun treats, these Mummy Cookies made with Nutter Butters should be on your list. With just a couple of ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can create these adorable mummies that are sure to be a hit with both kids and adults!
I'm all about making fun Halloween treats for my kiddos or for any Halloween parties we get invited to. This is one of those easy recipes that looks impressive and that your entire family will love. These might be my favorite Halloween cookies.
Mummy Cookie Ingredients
One of my favorite things about making these easy mummy cookies is that you can make a big batch or small batch depending on how many people you're feeding. If I'm just making them for my family, I'll make 6 or 8 and if I'm making them for a crowd, I'll make a few dozen.
I have found that around 4 oz of almond bark is perfect for 6 cookies. This is where all that math you learned in high school comes in handy! 😉
Nutter Butter cookies
Nutter Butter cookies are the perfect cookie to use for this mummy cookies recipe. The shape of the cookie makes the perfect mummy body and the peanut butter taste pairs well with the white chocolate.
White almond bark (or white candy melts)
While you can use white almond bark, white candy melts or white chocolate chips for this recipe, white almond bark is my go to because it melts evenly and hardens quickly. If you use white candy melts or white chocolate chips, you may want to add a touch of coconut oil after melting for a smoother texture.
Candy eyes (optional)
I love candy eyeballs and always have a bunch around the house. It's a great way to turn an ordinary snack into a festive treat. There are so many cute options these days. You can get big ones or small ones. Normal ones or creepy ones. You can even get fabulous ones with eyelashes which I absolutely love!
How To Make Cute Mummy Cookies with Nutter Butters
Start by laying out a piece of parchment paper on an ungreased cookie sheet. This is where you'll place your cookies to set after dipping them in the almond bark. I recommend using a cookie sheet rather than placing the parchment paper on the counter because if you're impatient like me, you'll want to throw the cookies in the fridge to set faster and the cookie sheet makes that easier.
Add the white almond bark to a small microwave-safe bowl. Melt for 30 seconds then stir. Then continue melting at 50% power for 30 seconds at a time, making sure to stir your melted chocolate well between each interval. This process should take around 90 seconds to 3 minutes. Ensure that the almond bark is smooth and fully melted.
If you decide to use white candy melts or white chocolate chips, you may need to add some coconut oil to the melted white chocolate to make it a little smoother.
One at a time, dip your Nutter Butter cookies into the melted almond bark, ensuring they are fully coated.
Gently shake off any excess chocolate and place them on the prepared parchment paper.
Place the dipped cookies in the fridge for about 5 minutes. This helps the almond bark to start setting, making it easier to add your mummy bandages.
Once the cookies have chilled, transfer any remaining almond bark to a piping bag. If it has started to harden, you might need to give it a quick reheat in the microwave.
Snip off a tiny bit from the tip of the bag and start piping the bandages across your cookies in zig zags to get that mummy look. You can be as creative as you like here, making some bandages thicker, some thinner, and letting some overlap.
If you're using candy eyes, now is the time to stick them on. Just place them gently onto the almond bark bandages. They should stick easily.
Allow the cookies to set completely at room temperature or place them back in the fridge for a quicker set.
Once set, your mummy cookies are ready to be enjoyed! If you need to trim some of the excess chocolate off, you can do that before serving.
Serve them at your Halloween party, give them out to trick-or-treaters, or keep them for yourself (we won't tell!).
