I love to make “themed” foods. In my kids opinion, there's no better time than Halloween. Creepy, spooky, and just plain gross (looking, not tasting) appeal to them. Since I'm pretty much in love with all Oreo based recipes, I whipped up these Halloween Oreo Cookies Eyeball Pops! They're easy, they're fun, and they taste delicious!
Halloween Oreo Cookies Eyeball Pops
1 bag of lollipop sticks (After making these a few times, I think the 6″ Wilton Lollipop sticks work best)
Double Stuffed Oreos or Mega Stuffed Oreos
White Candy Melts or White Almond Bark
Lifesavers
Mini Chocolate Chips
Red Edible Food Marker, Red Decorating Gel, or White Frosting and Red Sugar Crystals (optional)
Instructions:
Begin by heating your candy melts or almond bark according to the directions on the package.
While your candy is melting, carefully insert lollipop sticks into your Oreos. I hold my cookie together while inserting the stick.
Once your candy is melted, spoon the white chocolate over your Oreo pops paying extra attention to the area where the Oreo meets the stick. By adding additional melted candy there, you’ll ensure that your Oreo won’t slide around later. I learned this the hard way. 😉
When your Oreo is completely covered, place your Oreo Pop on a sheet of wax paper to set. While the candy coating is still soft, add a Life Saver and a mini chocolate chip to make the eye. If you're not in a hurry, you can let them set for a few hours until they're nice and hard. If you're impatient like I am, pop them in the freezer for 30 minutes and they'll set perfectly! Once you're Oreo Pops have set, you’ll want to trim the excess chocolate off your Oreo Pops with a pair of clean kitchen shears.
Now it's time to make those eyeballs a little creepier. You have a few choices here. You can use an edible food marker, red gel, or buttercream frosting and red sugar crystals. I went with the buttercream frosting and sugar crystal because I believe everything is better with frosting! 🙂
I piped on a some buttercream frosting to look like bloodshot eyes. {mmmm….doesn't that sound appetizing?}
Next sprinkle on some red sugar crystals!
Voila! You have Oreo Eyeball Pops! These are freakishly delicious!
