If you're looking for a delicious treat that looks as good as it tastes, you'll want to whip up these Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups.
This fun holiday dessert is perfect for cookie exchanges, Christmas parties, or family get-togethers. They're also the perfect treat for a family night during these cold months!
Seriously…it doesn't get much better than these darling cookies that look just like a cup of hot chocolate. They're almost too cute to eat…almost. 🙂 Don't be surprised if they quickly become your favorite Christmas cookie!
I've made these with mini muffin tins and regular muffin tins. I think you get the best results with a mini muffin tin, but you can use a regular muffin tin if that's what you have handy!
This recipe will make about 24 mini muffin tin cookies or 12 if using regular muffin tins.
Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups Ingredients
- 1 package Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons hot cocoa mix
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Buttercream frosting {You can use homemade or store bought}
- 12 mini pretzels
- 1 cup Jet-Puffed Mallow Bits
How To Make Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease your muffin tin.
Next you'll want to divide up your sugar cookie dough into sugar cookie dough balls. Use 1 tablespoon of the sugar cookie dough if you opt for the mini muffin pans and 2 tablespoons if you go with regular sized muffin tins.
Place 1 dough ball into the bottom of each mini-muffin indentation. You don't need to press the dough onto the side of the cookie cups as the dough will puff up during baking and then indent once they're cooling.
Bake for 12-14 minutes at 375 degrees. Allow the cookies to cool completely in the pan before gently removing them. As they cool they will indent making the cup shape.

Next you'll want to make your chocolate ganache. To get started, you'll want to bring the whipping cream to a boil.

Now you'll want to stir your hot cocoa mix into the boiled heavy cream.
Place chocolate chips into separate bowl or measuring cup and pour your hot whipping cream mixture over your chocolate chips. Allow the mixture to sit for 2-3 minutes before stirring. Then stir the ganache until it's smooth and creamy.
Now, place a few chocolate chips in the bottom of each cookie cup and pour your chocolate ganache mixture over the chocolate chips.
Next, break off the loops on some mini pretzels to use as handles.
Using your white frosting as glue use it to attach the pretzel handles to the sugar cookie cups.
Finally, top off your hot cocoa cookie cups with marshmallow bits! These are super tiny marshmallows that are much smaller than mini marshmallows and can usually be found near the hot chocolate in your grocery stores.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to use frosting to attach my pretzel cookie cup handles?
No. I have made these using melted white chocolate instead of frosting for attaching the handles.
Do I have to use pretzels as my cookie cup handles?
You could also use mini candy canes to make a candy cane handle. You'll just want to use the end of a knife to cut the curved section off a candy cane. You can use the remainder of the candy cane to stir an actual cup of hot chocolate!
I can't find marshmallow bits. Can I use something else instead?
You can use miniature marshmallows, but they may overshadow your cookies. I've used marshmallow creme and while they don't look quite as cute, it gives it that marshmallow or whipped cream look and that yummy marshmallow taste!
How do you store these hot chocolate marshmallow cookies?
Store these adorable Christmas cookies in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
