Helpful Equipment for Making a Taco Board
Large Board: Choose a large, flat board to serve as the base for your taco charcuterie spread. This could be a wooden cutting board, a slate board, or any large flat surface that you have on hand.
Small Bowls, Mini Bowls & Small Cups: These are essential for holding smaller toppings and sauces. If you need to add some bowls to your arsenal, search for mise en place bowls or prep bowls at Target, Walmart or Amazon.
Large Skillet: Needed for cooking the ground beef.
Mexican Charcuterie Board Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 jar salsa (peach mango shown in recipe)
- 3 Tablespoons taco seasoning mix (or a 1 oz packet)
- ¼ cup water
- 2 cups cooked chicken, chopped
- 1-2 cups Mexican blend cheese
- 3-5 peppers (you can use mini peppers or bell peppers)
- 10-12 cherry tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups shredded lettuce
- 1/3 cup guacamole
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- 1/3 cup taco sauce
- 8 hard taco shells
- 8 soft taco shells
How To Make The Ultimate Taco Board
In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Add the taco seasoning and ¼ cup of water to the skillet. Stir until the seasoning is fully combined with the meat.
Mix in ½ jar of salsa, and continue to heat, stirring until everything is well mixed.
Place a serving dish in the center of the board. This will hold the seasoned ground beef.
On opposite sides of the board, arrange the hard and soft taco shells.
Scatter the toppings—lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, chicken, guacamole, sour cream, and taco sauce—around the board, filling in the spaces between the taco shells.
Adding extras like pico de gallo, corn salsa, fresh cilantro and lime wedges is a really fun way to add pops of color in addition to adding flavor.
I also think chips are a great option to include as they go so well with all the good stuff on your taco board.
Your taco charcuterie board is now ready to be enjoyed!
FAQs {Frequently Asked Questions}
Can I customize the toppings on the taco charcuterie board?
Absolutely! I've kept this board pretty simple but there are so many other great options. Some of my favorite options to add (especially if you're doing a huge board for something like a Cinco de Mayo party) is a variety of salsas, refried beans, black beans, Mexican street corn, and queso fresco. You can also serve tortilla chips and lettuce so that people can make nachos or taco salads.
What other types of meat can I use?
While this recipe calls for ground beef and chicken, you can easily substitute with other types of meat such as ground turkey, shredded pork, or even grilled shrimp.
Can this be made in advance?
You can prepare many of the components in advance (such as browning the meat and chopping vegetables), but store your items in airtight containers and don't assemble the board until just before serving to keep everything fresh.
How do I serve the taco charcuterie board?
Place the board in the center of your table and let your guests build their own tacos. Make sure to provide plenty of napkins!
What size board do I need?
The size of the board will depend on the number of guests you are serving. For 4-6 servings, a board that is at least 18×12 inches should suffice. If you're throwing a huge party, you can even cover an entire table with aluminum foil and then butcher paper.
Can I make this vegetarian?
Of course. You can easily make this a vegetarian taco board by omitting the meat and adding in more veggies or a meat substitute.
How do I clean the board after use?
If your board is wooden, wipe it down with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry immediately. Do not soak in water or put in the dishwasher.
Creating a taco charcuterie board for Taco Tuesday is a fun and creative way to serve up a delicious and customizable meal for your friends and family. With a variety of toppings and the flexibility to customize based on preferences, it’s sure to be a hit.
So get ready to party and enjoy the process of creating your taco masterpiece!
