Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cones

If you're looking for a fun Christmas craft to do with your kiddos, Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cones are the answer! They are easy to make, inexpensive, and can be made in mass quantities if you need to make gifts for lots of people!

I'm completely obsessed with hot chocolate. I drink at least one cup everyday…summer, winter, spring or fall…and during the holiday season, I often drink more than one a day!

And I think these reindeer hot cocoa cones may be one of my favorite Christmas crafts ever! They make great party favors for a Christmas party and they're also the perfect addition to any gift you may be planning to give…especially when paired with reindeer wrapping paper. These adorable reindeer are the perfect way to spread a little holiday cheer!

What You Need To Make Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cones

• Hot Chocolate Mix {If you're just making a few, you may want to use packets of hot chocolate instead}
• Mini Marshmallows
• Chocolate Chips {You can use milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet if you prefer}
• Clear plastic cone shaped bags {You can use treat bags or frosting bags. I like treat bags because they come with a twist tie}
• Googly eyes
• Red pom poms
• Small rubberbands
• Pipe Cleaners {My favorite are the glittery ones in gold or black, but I can't always find them}
• Super glue or tacky glue
• Ribbon (optional)

How to Make Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cones

You'll want to start by putting one serving of hot cocoa mix into the bottom of your plastic bag.  I like to put enough hot chocolate powder to mix with 8-12 oz of milk or water.

To make this easy, open one treat bag and fold it over a cup so that you're less likely to spill or end up with cocoa powder all over your fingers.

When I make these, I do it one of 2 ways…and I'll share both with you so you can choose which will work better.

If I'm making a bunch of these and not giving them right away, I like to put the hot chocolate mix in a separate bag from the chocolate chips and marshmallows. If I'm making them the night before I give them, I put the chocolate chips directly on top of the hot chocolate mix and then I add the marshmallows on top of the chocolate chips.

If you want to do a separate bag for the cocoa mix, you'll want to seal the bag with the cocoa mix with one of your small rubber bands.  You want the rubber band to be as close to the hot chocolate as possible.  Then cut off the excess top of the bag.

Now put your sealed hot chocolate into another cone making sure to line up the seams.

If you choose to put it all in one bag, you can just go on to the next step after adding the hot cocoa mix.

Now add a layer of chocolate chips.  If you're doing the 2 bag method, make sure to add enough to cover the top of the hot chocolate bag.  If not, add somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 cup.

Next add your layer of mini marshmallows.  Again, you can eyeball it or measure between 1/4 and 1/2 cup.

Once your ingredients are safely in your cone shaped bag, close it and tie with a small rubber band. If you bought treat bags, you can use the twist tie that comes with the bag to close your hot chocolate bags.

Next you'll want to glue your googly eyes just below where your hot chocolate mix starts.

Next you'll want to glue a small red craft pom pom nose to the middle of your bag or the tip of your bag to make Rudolph's nose.  

Your red pom-pom and your craft eyes may not stick well to your plastic bag depending on whether it's a cellophane bag or some kind of frosting bag.

You may want to experiment with glue dots and hot glue. I've made some batches that I had to use superglue to keep the nose and eyes on.  If you decide to use superglue, be very careful. You don't want to be walking around with a red pom pom ball permanently attached to your finger.

Next, wrap a pipe cleaner around the rubber band at the top of your cone then bend the pipe cleaner to look like reindeer antlers.

Last but not least, if you want, you can add a ribbon around the top of your cone (right next to your antlers).

Voila!  An easy-peasy Christmas craft that makes a great gift idea or a fun party favor!
