1. Use a basket.
Grab a basket from the dollar store or grab some for as little as a quarter at a local thrift shop. Add some tissue and place your gifts inside for a simple gift basket look. It is easier than wrapping, and since you can find baskets so cheap it is often less expensive too.
2. Wrap them in fabric.
Take scrap fabric and twine and wrap those gifts up in a charming, heartfelt way. This gives gifts a homemade feel while also protecting the item well. You can wrap up books this way as well as candles or food items and they will look great.
3. Use the funnies section.
Save the funnies or comics section from your local newspaper to wrap children’s gifts in. The funnies add some color and character to the wrapping and since kids just tear the paper off anyways, there is no point in spending money on it.
4. Opt for a colorful bow.
When gifts are large, just opt for a colorful bow. This way you aren’t wrestling with paper or spending an insane amount of money on it. Just buy an inexpensive bow (most dollar stores sell them) and add it right to the top along with a note.
5. Wine bags can be used for more than wine.
If you have been gifted wine in a bag, be sure to save the bag. They are perfect for holding all sorts of treats or even rolled up clothing items. Wine bags can be re-used over and over and are perfect for your gift giving needs.
6. Recycle household products.
Save shoe boxes, gift bags, tissue, fabric, and other items that can be used to wrap gifts. Keep a box of these supplies in the closet so you have them on hand when you need them. Gather items throughout the year so you can wrap items as needed while reusing items otherwise destined for the trash. I love knowing I am recycling and saving money on gift wrap at the same time.
