If you have a dog you love, you need to make your baby these homemade dog treats for Valentine's Day. The color makes it the perfect Valentine's Day treat and they don't have any of the nasty ingredients that many commercial dog treats include.
If you've known me for any length of time, you're probably shocked that I'm making homemade treats for a dog. But my sweet Goliath is the cutest dog in the world! For real!
Can I be honest for a second? I've always loved our pets, but I've never fully understood the people who treated their pets like a member of their family…until we got Goliath. This dog has me wrapped around his teeny-tiny paw.
He loves to curl up in my lap like this! I could literally post pictures of him all day long. But I'm sure you're not here for pictures of my dog. I'm pretty sure you came here looking for a recipe for homemade dog biscuits.
These dog treats only have 5 ingredients. You'll need beets, bananas, flour, oats, and plain yogurt. The color from the beets makes these treats perfect for Valentine's Day.
Homemade Dog Treats Ingredients
- 1 mashed banana
- 1 beet roasted or steamed
- 1 cup Flour
- 1 cup oats
- ¼ C plain yogurt
How To Make Homemade Dog Treats
PSA: Before you get started, put on a pair of gloves…unless you really like having pink hands. You're welcome!
Chop the beets into small pieces then use a grater to grate them or use a potato masher to mash them.
Put quick oats into blender or food processor to make into a flour consistency.
Mash banana into a soft consistency.
Mix beet, banana, and yogurt together.
Add flour and oats and mix well.
Roll out the dough on a flat floured surface. I used parchment paper under mine. Use cookie cutters to cut into shapes.
Place shapes onto cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 minutes.
Cool on wire cooling rack.
Store in an airtight container.
Tips for making homemade dog bones:
Roll dough out on parchment paper or a silicone mat for easier clean up.
Place parchment paper on cooling rack before placing cookies on the rack.
No need to add red food coloring. I experimented and there was no color difference by using Wilton coloring gel. Also, I'm not sure if you've noticed this with your pet, but if I give my sweet dog anything with dye, he's a total maniac.
I mentioned this before, but I'll repeat it. 🙂 Wear gloves to work with this dough unless you don’t mind pink hands.
