One of my favorite first day of school traditions is back to school pictures. It's so fun to see how my kids have grown year over year.

If you're looking for a fun way to kick off this school year, these signs are it. Whether you're sending your little one to their first day of preschool or your kiddo is in 12th grade and starting their last year of high school {cue the waterworks}, these signs are fun to use! {Warning, you may get eye rolls from your older kids, but once they're adults, they'll be thankful for these pictures.}

When my oldest kids were little I remember people telling me that “They days are long but the years are short.” At the time, there were days and years that seemed endless!

But now I have 3 adult children…and only 2 kiddos left at home. And the start of each school year reminds me that those words of wisdom were true. And boy have the years seemed short.

I pulled this first day of school photo from when my oldest daughters were in 5th grade and 6th grade. This was the start of middle school for them, so I'm quite surprised they were smiling!

Oh, how I wish I had some of these all about me printables back then to commemorate the things they liked and what they wanted to be when they grew up. It would have made our first day of school pictures even better.

For Parents:

Print these off and have your kiddos fill them out the night before they go back to school so on the first day of school you just need to grab the sign and take pictures. Even if you forget about this fun school tradition until the last minute (which I've done many times), if you have a color printer, you can just download the pdf files and voila…you'll have an adorable sign for your school photos.

For Teachers:

If you're looking for a fun activity to kick off a new school year, these free printables can be a valuable tool that will help you get to know the students in your classroom and will help them get to know their new classmates.

It's also a great way to help your students get past the first day jitters. You can have students fill out these All About Me printables and then invite students to come to the front of the class to share a couple fun facts about themselves (like their favorite subject or favorite food).

You can repeat this at the end of the school year to see how the kids have changed!

If you teach kindergarten, first grade or second grade, you may be tempted to help with spelling, but allowing them to spell phonetically will create such fabulous keepsakes. And it's a great way to see how much their spelling improves over the course of the school year.

Printable 1st Day of School Signs

Your first option is light blue and green.

Each printable includes a colored banner at the top for you to write your child's name. Under “FIRST DAY OF” you'll want to write the grade level they're starting (i.e 3rd grade or third grade).

There is also a place to write the name of your child's teacher, your child's age, and the name of the school. This printable sign also includes a place for your child to write what they want to be when they grow up.

I've also included a section for favorites…favorite food, favorite subject, favorite movie, favorite song, favorite sport, favorite color and favorite memory.

The second printable 1st day of school sign in light blue and green offers many of the same things as the first sign. I've changed the fonts a little and left a place in the favorites section for them to write the name of their best friend instead of their favorite memory.

These two back to school signs also come in fuchsia and teal (also known as the Fun Happy Home site colors).

This pretty first day of school sign is my favorite. I love the font and colors! If I were going back to school, this is the printable sign I would be holding up! 🙂

You can also choose from lime green with orange accents.

I thought these were fun…and the colors are nice for boys or girls.

And last but definitely not least, we have 1st day of school signs in orange with green accents.

I tried to make sure that there were printable signs that would appeal to everyone!

You can print the whole file off at once or just choose one sign. If you plan on doing lots of printing at home, you may want to consider a laser jet printer. It’s so much cheaper to print with one.

Also, I highly recommend printing these signs on heavy duty white cardstock. They're easier to hold and less likely to get bent and messed up by little hands.
