One of the things I've loved most about blogging is the amazing people I've been able to meet and connect with over the last 7 years (yes…I've actually had this blog for 7 years although it did change names over the course of those 7 years). One of those amazing people I've connected with is my friend Stephanie of A Candid Pastor's Wife and I'm so excited to have her guest post today! She has created an amazing resource for parents and I'll let her tell you all about it! I never pushed my 3-year old daughter into princess territory – she discovered it all on her own. One Disney movie here, one picture of a lovely bride there and bam – I now have a full-fledged princess addict on my hands.
I personally am not into princesses and frilly dresses and all the bling. And that's OK. It's OK for her to be different than me; in fact, God created her with the desire to be a princess – because she is! She's a daughter of the king.
My little princess gets to watch a beloved princess movie once a week or so, and my husband and I started thinking about how we could teach her more about Jesus using the stories she already gets. Theology is quite abstract for a 3-year old, but she sure does understand these princess stories.
I started thinking about the stories and discovered that yes, the gospel story quite clearly connects to her precious princesses.
After all, all great stories are but a shadow of the one great story – God's story!
Creating this video connecting the Disney movie Tangled (Rapunzel) to the gospel was such a joy! With clips of the movie (and even Rapunzel props), even children can watch it and hear the gospel! I hope that it helps you as parents to see how you can connect your child's favorite story to the gospel as well.
