We're headed to Florida next week to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of our adoption! We are really looking forward to this trip!!!
Since I've been planning this vacation, I thought some of the tips and tricks that made this vacation possible (and affordable) for us!
1. Join Alamo Insiders for exclusive deals.
Alamo Insiders offers exclusive deals and has special privileges like a 10% or more member discount on every rental. Plus, they have self-service kiosks so you don't have to wait in a long rental car line (unless you want to). 🙂
2. Use Groupon to save on activities
We were able to find discounts on an amusement park in Florida. Our family will spend less than half of what it would have typically cost to go there for a day. Our friends who are in Florida this week got the amusement park deal that we got and they got a deal on parasailing as well!
3. Use Restaurant.com for cheap meals out
Restaurant.com offers discount restaurant gift certificates. While these gift certificates typically have some terms and conditions, we usually end up saving over 50% on our meals. We've also discovered some delightful local restaurants while traveling thanks to Restaurant.com.
4. Get recommendations from your friends with Gogobot.
Plan a trip with great travel recommendations from friends and people who travel like you. Collect and share where you've been in your Gogobot passport. Whether it is a week's vacation, a business trip or a weekend getaway, Gogobot can help make your travel planning more fun.
5. Get organized with TripIt!
I'm not sure where TripIt has been all my life, but I'm seriously in love! This makes keeping track of travel itineraries a breeze!
6. Don't be afraid to take a voluntary “bump” for compensation.
Last year when we were on a trip, we found out that the flight was overbooked. They were looking for 4 volunteers to take a flight the next day. We were on our way home and didn't have anything planned until late in the day, so we volunteered. We were given hotel rooms, meal vouchers, and flight vouchers. The travel vouchers for the 4 of us totaled $1600! Those flight vouchers covered our airfare for this trip. Not a bad deal since the only extra money we paid by being bumped was $12.95 for the extra time our car spent at the airport.
I have plenty of other tips and tricks for saving money, but these are the ones I used for this trip!

I have heard that Groupon is great to use when traveling to save money on activities, especially for kids. I will definitely try it out here soon.

Saving over 50% on meals is a lot of money! Unfortunately, a “Page Not Found” message is displayed when I tried to visit Restaurant.com.
