Do you have a problem with your mudroom looking like a hot mess no matter what time of year it is? This summer, be proactive so that you can keep the area as clean as possible. Whether you keep muddy shoes off your floor or put an end to dirty clothes all over the room, you can keep your mudroom clean this summer.
1. Place a Shoe Scrubber Outside the Door
If your kids love to get dirty, you want to put a shoe scrubber outside your mudroom. This allows your kids to get most of the dirt off their shoes before entering the home. This is a must if you live in an area that sees a lot of rain in the summer or have a family that loves to go hiking or spend time at the lake. You can purchase shoe scrubbers really inexpensively online.
2. Add a Shoe Tray
Another way to keep your floors clean is to have a shoe tray in your mudroom. Even if your kids shoes aren’t muddy, your kids can still track in dirt. Have kids remove their shoes as soon as they enter the room and place the shoes on the tray. Again, if it’s a rainy day, this will keep the mess on the tray rather than your floors.
3. Give Everyone Their Own Space
Another problem in the mudroom is organization. Instead of allowing kids to toss their stuff all over the room, have hooks and baskets for each child. Make it a rule that everyone has to put their stuff away as soon as they come home. You can do this as simply as you want. For example, hang hooks on the wall and place baskets on the floor. You could also buy a coat rack with a bench that has cubbie holes for the baskets. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
4. Include a Hamper for Dirty Clothes
If you have a pool, or your kids just come home extremely dirty after playing in the park, you want to put a hamper for dirty clothes in the mudroom. This not only confines the mess to your mudroom, but ensures that the clothes aren’t just tossed in the floor as soon as your kids walk in the door. If you have a pool, this is an absolute must for keeping those wet towels off the floor.
5. Clean Up Messes as They Happen
No matter how proactive you are there will still be the occasional mess. If you quickly mop it up, the mess will clean up with no trouble at all. If you happen to find mud on the door, use an Envirocloth to clean it up easily without damaging the paint on your door. Remember that the longer the mess sits, the harder it will be to clean.
Your mudroom doesn’t have to be a scary mess this summer. There are so many easy tricks you can use to keep your mudroom clean this summer.
