I’m really excited to share an awesome new book in a fabulous new series with you, but I haven’t figured out a way to share how powerful this book has been for my kids without sharing a little of their very sad backstory.
Our twins moved in with us 3 years ago on December 22nd. They had been horrifically abused for years, but it was the only life they knew. When their mother signed over custody of the twins to us, she kept their 3 sisters with her. This has been a source of ongoing heartache for the twins. They miss their sisters horribly and pray for their safety on a regular basis.
As parents, we have regularly talked about the power of prayer. We also point out answers to prayer as we see them happen. Unfortunately, for 9 years olds, it’s hard to always recognize God at work and for them to fully understand that he answers prayers.
When I agreed to review Hannah the Belle of Prayer, I was excited about a book that gives little girls a female role model to look up to. I was also excited about the Disneyesque quality to the book.
I had no idea that it would be a book that we would read repeatedly and that Shayna would pick up over and over again.
Hannah the Belle of Prayer is the story of a little girl named Rooney Cruz who struggles to fit in on the playground (something my own daughter has struggled with over the years). She feels left out and goes to sit by herself under a tree. While sitting there, she is visited by an angel who takes her to 1 Samuel 1 to see Hannah and follow her story.
My kids were completely mesmerized. We’ve talked about the story and how awesome it is that God answers prayer. We’ve read it multiple times and had more discussions and we have prayed for their sisters repeatedly! It’s been seriously awesome!!!
The Bible Belles site offers some great FREE resources. We printed off some Memory Verse cards, some Prayer Activities and some coloring pages!
If you’re looking for a book that your kids will love (and that more importantly will teach them an important life lesson), I highly recommend Hannah the Belle of Prayer.
