If you have a pet, you need to know how to remove pet stains from carpet. Whether you have a new puppy or a cat with an upset tummy, eventually you’re going to have a mess to clean up. The good news is you can completely remove those stains along with any odors. I’ll be honest with you…the whole thought of pet stains makes me gag. I know that there are many of you who are in the same camp as me on this one, but if you don’t get them cleaned up well, they’ll come back to haunt you…literally!
How to Remove Pet Stains from Carpet
1. Dry the Area Immediately
First things first. You want to dry the area to remove as much urine as you can from the area. Microfiber cloths are a great way to do this because they absorb so much liquid. You do not want to scrub while doing this. All you want to do is put on a pair of gloves and pat the area, continuously switching to a dry part of the cloth until all the liquid is dried up. You can follow these steps for vomit as well. Just be sure to remove any solid pieces before you start drying it up. If you’re dealing with feces, you’ll just pick it up and then start the cleaning process. Loose stools will need to be dried up, but you must be careful not to push the liquid into the carpet or you could risk worse stains.
2. Use a Carpet Cleaner
Even if the cloth dried up all the urine, you still need to clean the area with carpet cleaner. You will also need to use carpet cleaner when dealing with feces. The cleaner will sanitize the area, helping to remove bacteria. If bacteria is left behind, you’ll have a terrible odor that will linger. Follow the directions on the package to get the best results. If the urine had time to set, you may need to repeat the cleaning process at least once to get the area clean.
3. Apply an Odor Eliminator, If Needed
Last, but not least, an odor eliminator can get rid of any residual bacteria that may be causing an odor. If you weren’t home when the pet stain occurred, you will definitely want to use an odor eliminator after cleaning the area. In fact, you may need to spray the entire room just to get the room smelling fresh again.
You don’t have to buy a new rug or replace the carpet. You can remove pet stains and keep your home clean. You can even get rid of any odor that may be lingering. All you need are a few simple products and a bit of time.
