My kids only tend to get sick 3 times a year…on the weekend, when we’re on vacation or when I’m out of town. I’m not even kidding. And more often than not, we end up taking the kids to Urgent Care and we all end up with some kind of illness that is worse than the one we went into Urgent Care with. Not anymore though! Two weeks ago we used Amwell for the first time and I’m not sure we’ll ever go to another doctor’s office again. Amwell is awesome!
I was out of town over Valentine’s Day and the morning I was scheduled to come home, my husband called to tell me that James’ ears were bothering him. He didn’t have a fever and really wanted to go to school, so Fred let him go to school. I flew home this afternoon and when we picked James up from school, I could tell he wasn’t feeling well at all. He was pretty lethargic and was running a fever. When we got home, I jumped on my computer to try out Amwell. If you’d prefer to use your mobile device, you can download the Amwell Apple App or you can download the Amwell App from the Google Play Store.
It was really easy to set up my user profile. And then it allowed me to choose whether I wanted to be seen or if I wanted to have one of my children seen. I chose my child, added his information, and then it gave me the choice of doctors. I let him pick the doctor he wanted to see. He said Dr. Adrienne Fehr looked like a “nice old fashioned lady” (I’m sure she’s younger than me) and decided that “since she has 5 stars, we should go to her.”
Once we chose her, we were told to keep our window open and were told how long our wait would most likely be.
While we waited, Amwell shared interesting health facts with us. (And this fact about sneezes completely grossed me out).
They even gave us the option of switching physicians for a shorter wait time.
We decided to wait for Dr. Fehr since that’s who James preferred.
We didn’t have to wait very long before we were joined by Dr. Fehr. We explained James’ symptoms and she asked lots of questions. I told her what his temps had been and that both of his ears were bothering him. His one ear was red and warm to the touch. We discussed James’ allergy to artificial colors (which is typically a huge issue since we’ve had multiple doctors we’ve visited call in prescriptions with artificial coloring even after we’ve stressed his allergy). She made note of his allergy and called in a prescription to our local pharmacy. An hour later, I picked up his prescription and was thrilled to find that it did not contain dye. (In the last 3 years, Dr. Fehr has been the first doctor to call in a dye-free prescription on the first try, so that was majorly impressive for us.)
I’m thrilled to report that within a few days, James was totally back to his normal healthy self. I’m so thankful that we tried Amwell and I will be using them regularly from here on out.
